Chinese Vocabulary Builder from Real Reading

Build Chinese vocabulary from words you actually read. Save words in Pinyora, keep sentence context, and review them with quick quizzes.

Most Chinese vocabulary apps start with a list. Pinyora starts with reading.

That difference matters. A word you saved from a sentence has memory hooks: the story, the meaning, the grammar around it, and the reason you cared. Generic flashcards can help, but context makes vocabulary easier to keep.

Why reading-based vocabulary works

When you meet a word while reading, you get more than a definition:

  • The sentence shows how the word behaves.
  • Nearby words reveal collocations.
  • The topic gives the word emotional or practical relevance.
  • Re-reading lets you recognize the word without forcing recall too early.

Pinyora saves words from the sentence where you found them, then lets you review later.

A better vocabulary loop

  1. Read a short Chinese text.
  2. Tap unknown words.
  3. Save only words that seem reusable.
  4. Finish reading before reviewing.
  5. Quiz saved words later.
  6. Re-read the original text.

That loop avoids the trap of saving 80 words and learning none of them.

Pinyora vs standalone flashcards

Need Standalone flashcards Pinyora vocabulary builder
Source of words Decks or manual entry Words saved while reading
Context Often missing Original sentence included
Motivation Abstract study Connected to texts you chose
Review Strong recall drills Quick quizzes tied to reading
Best use Exam cramming and spaced repetition Daily reading-driven vocabulary growth

You can still export or maintain serious decks elsewhere. Pinyora is the place where useful words enter your study system.

What words should you save?

Save words that meet at least one of these tests:

  • You have seen it more than once.
  • It blocks the meaning of the sentence.
  • It belongs to a topic you care about.
  • It feels useful in speech or writing.
  • It is part of an HSK pattern you are studying.

Do not save every unknown word. A smaller list reviewed consistently beats a huge list you avoid.
